What delicious foods are actually dangerous if consumed in excess?

Honey makes people hallucinate the same effect as using marijuana.

Her name is mad honey (Red Honey, Himalayan Red Honey, Deli Bal) which comes from Nepal. This hallucinogenic honey can be sold for over $60 per pound on the black market.

The cause comes from rhododendron flower essence which contains grayanotoxin , which can cause hallucinations and slower heart rate to temporary paralysis and unconsciousness Grayanotoxins -- the toxins in Himalayan Red Honey bind to salts present in cells, activate the vagus nerve which controls the heart, lungs, digestive tract.

Several species of bees are known to pollinate
rhododendrons , including the bees that produce Himalayan Red Honey. Surprisingly for this bee-pollinated plant it has high levels of rhododendron diterpine nectar which is toxic to many animals other than bees. Diterpine contains the most important substance (by amount) in  rhododendron nectar is grayanotoxin .

Rhododendrons thrive in the highlands, which makes bees ( Apis Dorsata ) often nest on steep cliffs. This makes the profession of honey collectors in Nepal very dangerous. In Nepal, honey hunters make treacherous vertical ascents while enduring enormous bee stings to harvest Himalayan Red Honey.

Honey extraction process

The craziest thing is that the process of taking honey is quite extreme.

Nepalese honey can only be found at the foot of the Himalayas, precisely in the Annapurna mountains. Even the honey is only located on the sides of the cliffs because the honeycomb of Nepal's honey-producing bees is hanging on the sides of the cliffs.
So to take honey on the side of the cliff, they also have to use rigging that is tied manually.

Just imagine you are drinking this honey in the middle of a high cliff. Hmm…
